Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Assistant Dean III Supervisor. The Assistant Dean for Recruitment and Community Engagement is a member of the Office of Academic Services (OAS) team in the School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN), and oversees the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of all programs, activities, policies, and services relating to recruitment, enrollment management, and community engagement services and activities provided by OAS.This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Oversees and executes all planning related to recruitment, college and high school partnerships, and other community engagement activities, and contributes to planning with internal and external partners and stakeholders. Collects, analyzes, and prepares data and reports on activities related to recruitment, enrollment management, and community engagement.
  • Provides supervision, coaching, advocacy, and mentorship to OAS staff, including student peer advisors.
  • Member of OAS leadership staff with overall responsibility to improve undergraduate student success within Newark College of Arts and Sciences (NCAS) and University College-Newark (UC-N).
  • Proactively designs, conducts, and assesses workshops, programs, and other initiatives to improve student recruitment, ease transitions, and contribute to student success and retention.
  • Oversees OAS recruitment and enrollment management efforts in close and productive collaboration with the Office of Admissions and all other relevant stakeholders. Active and collaborative partner in student recruitment and retention programs.
  • Oversees assessment and reporting for recruitment, enrollment, and community engagement. Serves as academic advisor for OAS/Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N)-wide advising activities, establishing and maintaining contacts with NCAS and UC-N students to counsel them, teach them to advocate for themselves, and facilitate their progress towards graduation, declaration of major, and successful career and/or professional development; including, but not limited to, academic advisement, outreach, and creating programs to enhance student academic progress and achievement.
  • Works across administrative lines and historical boundaries to connect, engage, support, and empower a diverse set of stakeholders toward a common goal of enhancing the student experience.
  • Ensures accurate and comprehensive information regarding academic rules and procedures provided to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ensures proper implementation of, communication of, and compliance with relevant policies.
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, student service-focused, confidential team environment with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of SASN, RU-N, and Rutgers University (RU) system, and the role the tasks and responsibilities of this position play in the achievement of these goals.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in an academic discipline, higher education administration, student development, counseling, or related field
  • Requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in academic advisement and counseling or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of management, team-building, leadership, and best practices research

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, public speaking, and other communication skills coupled with the ability to think creatively, effectively integrate information, and attain results, along with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse setting

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully, develops alternative solutions, and works well in a team environment and in problem-solving situations

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree and five years of experience in higher education within the field of student services and academic advising strongly preferred
  • Experience in effective use of Excel, SPSS, and data analysis in decision-making strongly preferred
Equipment Utilized
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite. Uses the Student Records Database (SRDB), degree audits, Student Success Collaborative (SSC), IMS, Maxient, Degree Navigator, OAS applications, ImageNow, Cornerstone, START, FAMS, in-house applications, and any database or program utilized by the University to perform the duties of this position now or in the future
  • Must be familiar with or learn all the office equipment, software, and specialized programs and/or materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position on an ongoing basis
