How you will create an impact

Portfolio Analysis is one of the key pillars of Talbot’s planning and performance framework. This role will focus on targeted, deep-dive analyses of classes of business that will feed into Talbot’s annual business plans, long-term underwriting strategies and performance management processes.

We are looking for a highly intelligent, motivated individual to conduct rigorous analysis of Talbot’s underwriting portfolio using market-leading data & analytics tools to drive underwriting excellence.

Whilst this role is part of a high performing team of 5, we want someone who is able to operate fairly autonomously and use their initiative to build relationships across the business and undertake analysis that improves how Talbot teams underwrite. The role will include, but not be limited to, the following activities:

  • Lead and manage underwriting performance reviews on key business lines; partnering with stakeholders across the business including Underwriting, Claims and Actuarial.

  • Recommend and agree portfolio actions to drive profitable growth or remediate under-performing classes. Monitor delivery of these actions over time.

  • Present findings to the Planning and Performance Review Steering Group (PPRSG) – this group is comprised of senior leadership and oversee all of Talbot’s underwriting activity.

  • Drive improvements in data quality and segmental insight over time. Including partnering with AIG counterparts to leverage external and internal data sources.

  • Produce high quality reports and MI for internal and external stakeholders

  • Support the HoPP in the execution of Portfolio Management;

  • Drive consistency in our portfolio management approach across classes of business.

  • Agree with the business which classes and segments to focus on based achieving the largest impact on syndicate performance.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Previous insurance industry experience (3+ years)

  • Experience within an analytical role producing quality MI & reporting

  • Strong pricing, data modelling and analysis experience

  • Strong IT literacy with solid SQL and MS Office skills, particularly in Excel (including VBA)

  • A high level of numeric competence; excellent data gathering and manipulation skills

  • Actuarial experience would be desirable

  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders across different departments

  • Strong communication and relationship skills

  • Maths, Science, Economics or Engineering degree

  • Maths A-Level (A*- B)
