Position Summary:

Prof. Monica Cornejo's (Department of Communication) research lab employsvarious methodologies to examine the structural barriers that lead to inequities among legally vulnerable migrants, how legally vulnerable migrants draw on communication identity management and advocacy strategies to challenge those barriers, and how those strategies relate to their health and wellbeing.


Prof. Cornejo is seeking a research aide who will support the aims of Prof. Cornejo's research lab. Mainly, responsibilities will be in areas including administrative/managerial, communications, workshop programming, and reporting. Moreover, the individual will work closely with Prof. Cornejo and the lab's research interns through various stages of a project, including data collection.


This is a part-time position at 25 hours/week for an initial 6 months.Renewal possible contingent on available work, funding and performance.


Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Associate's degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience, or equivalent or high school diploma/GED and 5 years of relevant, management/administration experience
  • Bilingual; Spanish and English
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills: ability to write/design, revise/proofread research-related documents and presentations, and other materials-in English & Spanish
  • Ability to assess situations, de-escalate interpersonal conflict, and investigate/resolve problems, independently and with supervisors/colleagues-as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of web-based research and research documentation.
  • Effective organizational, time and project, management skills
  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft office suites (Word; Excel; Powerpoint)
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color.
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communication or related field
  • Experience working with historically marginalized and/or vulnerable populations
