The Vision UIK/IRE team at J&J drives the ACUVUE® portfolio of contact lens products. ACUVUE® is the best selling contact lens brand in the world.

Role Purpose:

The Vision team at Johnson & Johnson (Acuvue contact lenses/"JJV") is recruiting for a Senior Category Manager, located in Wokingham, UK.

The purpose of this job is to lead and deliver category strategy and trade activation , actively driving profitable sales growth and share for ACUVUE® Contact Lenses, as well as ensuring meticulous creation & execution of agreed activities, in line with the business plans and the Johnson & Johnson Credo.

The Senior Category Manager will work closely with the Head of Marketing to ensure the successful creation and delivery on both category strategy (how JJV will work with customers to grow the overall contact lens category, for mutual benefit) and trade activation (marketing execution in customer owned channels, both off- and online).

The Senior Category Manager will lead and coordinate the Trade Activation team reporting into them. The job holder partner closely with the rest of the Marketing team, as well as the Key Account and Sales (Field) teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and drive analysis and insight-generation around category performance and health of business within category context (owning consumption & fits data for UK) as well as identifying new data sources to assess performance & category dynamics

  • Shape longer term (3yr ) category strategy for JJV UK – identifying how we can best drive sustainable category growth

  • Shape and lead (as DRI) the priority need state category growth strategy, working with different functional teams to drive insight into strategy into action. Involves close consultation with Portfolio Lead and others

  • Define and enable clear communication of the UK category opportunity for JJV and its customers, both internally and externally (category story)

  • Work with Strategic Insights EMA team to ensure availability and leverage (insight into action) of relevant tracking and audience insight research regarding the category, consumer attitudes & behaviours, wearer trends and dynamics

  • Shape and implement clear wearer growth strategy for UK business, with clear tracking of progress against wearer ambition

  • Lead trade activation team to deliver excellent customer activation of Acuvue activity, as agreed in Customer Business Plans, with clear critical metric tracking and return on investment analysis

  • Engaging, where relevant, with regional colleagues to share category & trade activation best in class work, and align on key opportunities

  • Marketing Lead for a given Customer Activation Team (common to all Marketing GBM and BM roles)

  • Day to day management of your team, growing talent and driving performance

  • Member of Extended Leadership Team (ELT) helping to shape culture and longer term business planning

Qualifications

Education:

  • University degree or equivalent experience encouraged.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • A marketing (with strong category exposure) or key account sales background, with experience in brand management, strategy development and deployment, customer execution and strong background of delivering results (proven experience, 6 years plus)

  • Able to form relationships and influence partners, manage complexity and perform effectively in a matrixed organization.

  • Strong influencing skills - communicate clearly with strong impact and excel in leading teams and influencing across functional teams

  • Strong customer facing skills at all levels

  • Strong commercial understanding of Retail environment

  • Can do positive approach, likes to work in a collaborative way and identify creative solutions to challenges

  • Able to analyze data quickly and infer insights to act and move forward. Able to master complexity

  • Is proactive and results driven. Enjoys bringing new ideas to the table & holds others accountable

  • Creates a sense of urgency for direct reports & team members to meet objectives

  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative style, able to work with multiple partners simultaneously and influence them

  • A strategic problem solver comfortable with ambiguity and adapting to change

  • The ability to operate independently with a high level of accountability and access to senior management

  • Puts the CREDO at the heart of every day activity and behaviour with people

Preferred:

  • Previous category management experience would be beneficial

  • Previous experience in Consumer Goods or Healthcare business

Other:

  • Occasional travel within UK (less than 10% of time) to customer meetings and or internal off site events. Typically one occasion per year of travel within Europe for sales kick off meeting - 3 days.
