Bon Secours Mercy Health Manager of Interpreter Services (Remote-US) in Cincinnati, Ohio

SUMMARY

The Manager of Language Services will provide general oversight of department operations to include direct supervision and planning of language access services, including interpreter and translation services for patients with sensory impairments as well as limited English proficiency, their family, and staff. All this while supporting culturally competent care across the BSMH footprint. The role will ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements as well as development of best practices and benchmarks in the area of linguistically equitable and appropriate services. The Manager will identify and address patient communication issues and barriers to service, through collaboration with organizational and community resources. They will serve as a consultant to the ministry and wider community as a content expert on language access and cultural competency.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Select, train and orient personnel. Monitor and supervise work, evaluate performance and initiate or recommend personnel action such as merit increases, promotions, or disciplinary actions.

  • Ability to mentor, motivate and guide direct reports toward both individual and organizational goals.

  • Participates in meetings and initiatives as content matter expert for BSMH as needed and requested.

  • Manages and maintains the quality of data in the system by ensuring that all data is accurate and up to date.

  • Review department performance, effect changes as needed to improve services provided and facilitate compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare and monitor operating budget for assigned area. Maintain department budget and productivity standards.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people of diverse racial, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Ability to model a high standard of quality and commitment to BSMH Mission and values in serving all.

  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative, attention to detail, follow-through and meet and exceed performance targets.

  • Serves as a resource for any department that provides service to limited- or non-English proficient, hearing- or visually impaired patients.

  • Develop successful and interpersonal relationships internally and in the wider community.

  • Develop goals and objectives, establish, and implement policies and procedures for department operation.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS

Education

4 year/ Bachelors Degree (Required)

Healthcare, Social Services or related degree

Licensing/Certification

  • CHI- Certified Healthcare Interpreter- Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (Preferred)

  • CMI- Certified Medical Interpreter-National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (Preferred)

Work Experience

  • 4 years of recent experience in an acute care setting (required)

  • 1 year of project management experience (required)

  • 2 years of interpreting in healthcare setting (preferred)

Training

EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred)

Language

Bilingual proficiency in English and a second language (Required)

Skills

  • Proficient use of MS Office, Outlook, Word, Excel. (Required)

  • Familiarity with TJC (Joint Commission) and CMS standards related to patient rights, advance directives, and ethics. (Required)

  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks. (Required)

  • Translation skills. (Preferred)

  • Customer service and conflict Resolution skills. (Preferred)
