  • Formulating and Planning : Independently lead and execute combustion-related scope arising from Configuration Modification and Upgrade (CM&U) projects during both the Initial Technical Offering (ITO) and Order to Remittance (OTR) stages.

  • Mechanical Design Ownership : Take complete ownership of mechanical designs, ensuring adherence to schedules and maintaining high-quality engineering deliverables.

  • Critical Issue Resolution : Lead and resolve critical combustion-related design issues from an engineering perspective. Additionally, address hardware and manufacturing-related challenges.

  • Collaboration and Customization : Collaborate with sourcing and repair teams, contributing to variable-cost productivity initiatives. Develop custom hardware modifications as needed.

  • Innovation and Impact : This role provides an opportunity to apply creativity and imagination in developing combustion systems for world-class gas turbine engines. Balancing cost, reliability, operability, and emissions, the selected individual will work alongside top minds to advance cutting-edge combustion technology and contribute to global electrification and decarbonization efforts.

Roles and Responsibilities :

  1. Mechanical Design Leadership : Coach, lead, and execute the mechanical design of combustion systems for gas turbine engines. Apply sound engineering principles, relevant design practices, and adhere to business standards, practices, and procedures.

  2. HD Service Upgrades : Apply skills to HD service upgrades projects during both the Initial Technical Offering (ITO) and Order to Remittance (OTR) phases. Provide deliverables such as defining fuel nozzle effective areas and specifying dilution holes for transition piece (TP) and liner designs.

  3. Performance Evaluation : Conduct detailed reviews to evaluate current and proposed combustion designs. Aim for gas turbine performance improvements and meet project-specific performance guarantees and customer Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) requirements.

  4. Part Definition and Releases : Directly release combustion-related part definitions for B/E/F/H and/or Alstom units. This includes uprates such as Standard to Dry Low NOx (DLN) conversion, fuel changeovers, or new fuel additions.

  5. CSO Responses and Outage Support : Own and provide responses to Customer Service Orders (CSO). Support project Equipment Data Record Management (EDRM) calls, Emergency Response (ER) cases, and provide outage support.

  6. TAG Collaboration : Co-own Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) related to combustion upgrades. Enhance TAG content through collaboration.

  7. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Proactively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Aero Thermal, operability, controls, and systems teams. Optimize combustion system designs.

  8. Technical Mentorship : Act as a technical mentor for the team. Develop technical depth and system knowledge across different gas turbine frames related to combustion systems.

  9. Project Management : Work concurrently on multiple projects, monitor progress, ensure quality, and meet schedule requirements.

  10. Field Issue Support : Provide technical support for complex field issues routed to engineering via Event Reports (ER), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), or Safety cases.

  11. Effective Communication : Communicate effectively and provide recommendations to both internal and external customers. Use proper engineering analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data.

  12. Business Priorities : Align with overall business priorities: Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC).

  13. Rapid Learning and Decision-Making : The selected individual should have the ability to quickly learn new technical domains and apply those learnings to active projects. Quick decision-making based on newly acquired knowledge is essential.

  14. Hardware Understanding: Demonstrate a solid understanding of clearance limits and tolerance stack up related to compressor and turbine hardware. This knowledge contributes to the durability and operability of the gas turbine unit.

  15. Effective Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial. Additionally, the ability to customize presentations and convey technical content appropriately based on the occasion, audience, and leadership level is important

Required Qualifications

  1. Educational Qualification :

  2. A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering , Aerospace Engineering , or a closely related engineering discipline is required.

  3. The degree should be obtained from an accredited college or university .

  4. Professional Experience :

  5. The candidate should have a minimum of 12 years of engineering experience after obtaining the bachelor’s degree.

  6. This experience should focus on HD Gas Turbine Technology or involve solid hands-on contributions in a similar role or previous position.

  2. A master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering , Aerospace Engineering , or a closely related Engineering discipline .

  3. Experience:

  4. At least 6 years of experience in gas turbine design , specifically within the domain of combustion system/hardware design ..

  5. Project Leadership:

  6. Demonstrated experience in leading multiple CM&U (Commissioning, Maintenance, and Upgrades) engineering projects simultaneously.

  7. These projects involve global stakeholders and require interfacing with teams across different time zones .
