This role is crucial for delivering business-critical upgrade projects worldwide. As part of the team, the selected candidate will have the following responsibilities:

Quest Global is seeking an Engineer - Clearances Mechanical Component role:

  1. Perform and lead Gas Turbine flange-to-flange clearance design and analysis.

  2. Collaborate with Operability, Heat Transfer, Aero, and Structural Components teams.

  3. Work on Configuration Modification and Upgrade (CM&U) projects.

  4. Own mechanical designs, schedules, and engineering deliverables.

  5. Resolve critical Gas Turbine F2F Clearances design issues.

  6. Contribute to variable-cost productivity initiatives.

  7. Collaborate with sourcing, repair-shops, and field teams for custom hardware modifications.

  8. Apply creativity and imagination to develop GT F2F mechanical system solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Flange-to-Flange Clearance Analysis and Technical Reviews :

  2. Collaborate with cross-functional and system teams for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, field/shop-related matters, and assigned Configuration Modification and Upgrade (CM&U) projects.

  3. Apply sound engineering principles and adhere to business standards, practices, and procedures.

  4. System-Level Analysis :

  5. Conduct system-level analysis of gas turbines to determine radial and axial clearances for critical rotating components.

  6. Optimize interfaces between rotating and stationary seals for optimal gas turbine operation.

  7. Hardware Configuration Evaluation :

  8. Perform detailed reviews to evaluate current and proposed GT F2F hardware configuration and design changes.

  9. Aim for required GT performance improvements to meet project-specific guarantees and customer Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) requirements.

  10. Clearance Limits and Tolerance Stack ups :

  11. Demonstrate a good understanding of clearance limits and tolerance stackups for compressor and turbine hardware.

  12. Enhance unit durability and operability.

  13. PLM Deliverables and Dispositions :

  14. Provide Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) deliverables, including creating Unit Clearance Diagrams, for heavy-duty service upgrade projects.

  15. Project Support and Technical Assistance :

  16. Own and support project ASAP workflows and Equipment Data Record Management (EDRM) calls.

  17. Provide technical support for complex field issues routed to engineering via Event Reports (ER), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), or Safety cases.

  18. TAG Collaboration and AO Hardware Definition :

  19. Support or co-own Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) related to Gas Turbine F2F Clearance scope.

  20. Define Aftermarket Original (AO) Hardware for different CM&U scope impacting F2F hardware and related clearances.

  21. Cross-Functional Collaboration :

  22. Proactively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Heat Transfer (HT), Aero, Manufacturing (MFG), Repair, Product Development Engineering (PDE), Services, and System teams.

  23. Optimize system-level performance.

  24. Review Rigor and Attention to Detail :

  25. Work with Title Leaders (TL), controlled title holders, and Chief Engineers (CE) offices.

  26. Ensure thorough reviews and attention to detail.

  27. Performance Improvement Opportunities :

  28. Identify opportunities to improve clearances for enhanced performance and reliability.

  29. Effective Communication :

  30. Provide recommendations to both internal and external customers through proper engineering analysis and presentation of technical data.

  31. Business Priorities (SQDC) :

  32. Align with overall business priorities: Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.

  33. Rapid Learning and Decision-Making :

  34. Quickly learn new technical domains and apply learnings to active projects, making informed decisions based on new knowledge.

  35. Hardware Understanding :

  36. Demonstrate a good understanding of clearance limits and tolerance stackups for compressor and turbine hardware.

  37. Enhance the durability and operability of the gas turbine unit.

  38. Effective Communication Skills :

  39. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

  40. Customize presentations and convey technical content appropriately based on the occasion, audience, and leadership level.

Required Qualifications

  • Education :

  • B. Eng /B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

  • Experience :

  • At least 10+ years of experience in the following fields:

  • Gas turbine design

  • Finite Element (FE) analysis

  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Stack-up calculations

  • Engineering drawings

  • Relevant tools

  • Design Philosophy Understanding :

  • Good understanding of the design evolution of Gas Turbine clearance analysis and design philosophy, particularly as it applies to different upgrade projects.

​Desired characteristics:

  1. Educational Qualification :

  2. A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering , Aerospace Engineering , or a closely related engineering discipline is desired.

  3. Technical Expertise :

  4. ANSYS Finite Element Analysis :

  5. Proficiency in conducting finite element analysis using ANSYS software.

  6. Experience with both 2D and 3D structural and/or heat transfer analysis.

  7. Unigraphics Modeling :

Competence in creating 3D models and assemblies using Unigraphics (now known as Siemens NX ).
